The wine card contest recognized Char Fuego y Brasas, Haydée and Iván Monreal in an edition with the presence of Tenerife and Lanzarote

He Char Fire and Embers Restaurant, located at the Baobab Suites Hotel, in La Caleta de Adeje, won the main prize for Best Wine Letter from the Canary Islands in the XXIII edition of the Canary Islands Regional Wine List Competition.

The contest, driven by the DOP Canary Islands – Canary Wine in collaboration with the DOP Ycoden Daute Isora, put the focus back on a decisive aspect of the restoration: the ability of restaurants to count Canarian wine from the dining room, with judgment, depth and a well-articulated proposal.

The jury, chaired by the sommelier Crazy Javier, five-time Spanish Champion, Char Fuego y Brasas highlighted its high-level winery, its commitment to the territory and the construction of a particularly solid wine proposal.

The other great recognition of the day went to Haydée Restaurant by Víctor Suárez, located in the Gran Tacande Hotel, in Costa Adeje. The Tenerife restaurant received the award for Best Design and Presentation for a letter with editorial excellence and a visual story linked to the volcanic landscape and the Atlantic environment.

In this edition they participated 14 establishments in Tenerife and Lanzarote. Among them were Haydée, Extra Canarian Flavor, Salinas Viewpoint, La Tegala, Wine Bar with Passion, Char Fire and Embers, Ethereal by Peter Nel, KATU Wine Bar & Tapas, Starfish, The Coto, The Rebojo, Felix Food & Wine, Winelanz Enoteca and Bésame Mucho.

The Lanzarote presence had weight within the contest, with restaurants and specialized spaces such as Salinas Viewpoint, in Yaiza; La Tegala, in Tias; KATU Wine Bar & Tapas, in Reef; y Winelanz Enoteca, also in Yaiza. Their participation confirms the growing interest of the island hospitality industry in working with wine not as a secondary accompaniment., but as an essential part of the gastronomic experience.

One of the highlights was the appointment of the Gran Canaria sommelier Ivan Monreal Herrera as Canary Wine Ambassador 2026. The recognition distinguishes professionals who contribute to the promotion of Canarian wine inside and outside the archipelago.. Monreal, with more than 25 years of experience in European fine dining, takes over from British expert Tim Atkin, who participated in the ceremony through a video greeting.

After receiving the distinction, Iván Monreal offered a masterclass focused on the elaboration and strategic design of wine proposals in restaurants, an increasingly relevant issue for establishments seeking to give greater presence to the islands' wine product.

The event was attended by representatives of the agricultural and institutional sector, between them John Jesus Mendez Siverio, president of the Canary Islands DOP – Canary Wine; Jose Sosa Afonso, president of the DOP Ycoden Daute Isora; Luis Arraez Guadalupe, director of the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality; y Juan Antonio Alonso Barreto, CEO of Rural Environment Management.

The day concluded with a cocktail paired with representative wines from both denominations of origin.. Beyond the record, the contest once again reminded us that a good wine list also builds a story: organize the territory, gives visibility to the wineries and helps diners better understand the diversity of Canarian wine.
