He Palmero Cheese today received the award for tourist destination linked to cheese in the ninth edition of the QdeQuesos Awards. The president of the Cabildo of La Palma, Sergio Rodriguez, received the recognition during the award ceremony, which took place at the facilities of Madrid Hospitality School (School of Hospitality and Tourism) of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid.
Sergio Rodriguez highlights the relevance of this award to position The Palm as a cultural and gastronomic reference on the national and international scene and congratulated the producers of the island who “work every day to value part of our identity and roots.”. Besides, recalled the importance of consuming local products to continue strengthening this vital sector for the island.
The Cheese Route in La Palma, recognized in this act, It is a tourist experience that invites you to discover the livestock tradition and the artisanal production of Palmero cheese.. The route takes place along the GR 130 and part of the municipality of Villa de Mazo, passing through neighborhoods like La Sabina, Malpaíses, Tiguerorte and Tigalate, until you reach Montes de Luna.
The route is present along this long-distance trail, the GR 130, considered the most mythical, famous and busy island. During the walk, Hikers can see first-hand the palm breed goat farms, learning about their breeding and feeding, the milking process and the production of palmero cheese. The experience culminates with a tasting of this emblematic product of the island of La Palma.
During the gala presentation of these awards, different categories were recognized: store highlighted for boosting cheese sales, cheese menu in restaurants, cheese world public event, relevant person in the world of cheese, relevant entity committed to cheese and media.
