Two cheeses from the islands achieved distinction in the Gourmets Hall Contest, in which the best in Spain are chosen, ratifying its quality

Two Canarian cheeses obtained one of the 60 medals awarded by the jury GourmetQuesos 'Championship of the Best Cheeses in Spain 2026', whose final was held coinciding with the fair Gourmets Salon, In Madrid. to the contest, which is among the most prestigious in Spain, more than 800 samples from all over the country. Of them, The Archipelago's creations have managed to win two silver medals, second prize in their respective categories, thus reaffirming the quality of island preparations.

So, In the raw milk cured goat cheese category, Pajonales cured was awarded., of the company Bolaños Cheeses, from Gran Canaria; and in the smoked category it was awarded The Caves (DOP Palmero Cheese), prepared by Felix Alberto Gil Rodriguez, not Puntagorda, The Palm.

In relation to these recognitions, the Minister of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, He stated that “it is a pride that the Canary Islands are once again among the most outstanding elaborations in the country in a reference event such as GourmetQuesos., especially in an edition with more than 800 samples from different locations in the national territory. These awards are a recognition of the effort on a daily basis., the professionalism and know-how of our producers, that keep alive a cheese tradition deeply linked to the territory, to our livestock breeds and production methods that combine authenticity, identity and excellence.

The award winner Best Cheese in Spain 2026 has been Savel, who competed in the blue modality (internal moldy), prepared by Airas Moniz in Chantada (Lugo, Galicia). In this 16th edition, the jury, composed of 64 judges, has awarded a total of 60 awards, three medals per category, plus nine Gold ICEX distinctions for the cheeses participating in the Cheese from Spain Awards.
