This recreational-gastronomic event closes the campaign to promote the consumption of this meat, started in December
Nearly 5.000 thousand people enjoyed Saturday 20 of January in the Second Baifo Tent which took place at the facilities of the Agricultural and Experimental Farm of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria (Arucas). With this recreational-gastronomic event, the annual campaign to promote the consumption of baifo and goat meat that began last December closed..
At 12.00 hours this stall started with a parade accompanied by the band Guiniguada, when a large number of people had already gathered at the facilities of the Council.
12 salty tapas and 6 sweets, prepared by the students of the six centers that teach cooking and gastronomy studies on the island (CIFP of San Cristóbal de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the IES of Bañaderos – Cipriano Acosta, Agüimes, Maspalomas Lighthouse, Felo Monzón y Northwest Santa María de Guía) were offered to the visitors, available at popular prices while stocks last. Goat Stew Bao Bread with Fresh Salad and Pickled Onion, ropa Vieja de baifo or goat yogurt and honey mousse are some of the recipes that were served. Some were made 5.000 tapas, between salty and sweet, with approximately 800 kg of meat -600 of bass and 200 goat-; practically doubling the amount offered the previous year. Besides, This recreational-gastronomic day featured children's activities and live music from The Pigs of Ingenuity and the pop band Los 600.
This campaign to promote the consumption of island meat is an initiative of the association of artisanal cheese producers of Gran Canaria – in Asoquegra, driven from the Primary Sector Counseling, Food sovereignty and water security, which aims to improve the profitability of artisanal cheese factories, who make cheese with the milk of cattle from their own farms and, both, highlight a product of the highest gastronomic quality, many times imported due to ignorance of its existence.

This campaign is one of the activities with which the island government, through its counseling of the primary sector area, meets one of the objectives of its Primary Sector Strategic Plan, with the aim of making visible, raise awareness and disseminate the added value of local products.
