The restaurant founded by Jaime Bouzón in 1989 opens its first headquarters outside Gran Canaria through an alliance with the Martínez Abolafio Group

Thirty-seven years after opening its first doors in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Rías Bajas has crossed to another island for the first time. The historic house founded by Jaime Bouzón in 1989 has just opened a new restaurant in Lanzarote Golf, Puerto del Carmen, fruit of the alliance between the Bouzón family and the Martínez Abolafio Group.

The movement has a relevance that goes beyond a new opening.

Rías Bajas is part of the gastronomic memory of several generations in Gran Canaria and its landing in Lanzarote represents the first island expansion of a brand that until now had kept its entire history linked to Las Palmas..

own Jaime Bouzón He attended the inauguration with his daughter Laura Bouzon, project manager, y Jose Martinez, CEO of the Martínez Abolafio Group.

«For us Rías Bajas is not simply a restaurant, but a family project», Laura explained to the guests. The house was born from a "half Galician" family, half Canarian" and with an idea that continues in force: bring a part of Galicia to the Islands with respect for the product and hospitality that aspires to make the client feel at home.

A Canarian brand that crosses the island

Rías Bajas was born in 1989 y, after going through different stages, was recovered again by the family in 2022. Now take a different step.

«It is the first time that Rías Bajas leaves Gran Canaria and moves to another island», Bouzón recalled during an inauguration that inevitably had an emotional charge for the family. Lanzarote thus becomes the restaurant's second home.

The new headquarters occupies a space in Lanzarote Golf, recovering the philosophy of Club Houses as meeting places where gastronomy and coexistence share prominence. The proposal maintains the product as its axes, tradition and a relaxed way of understanding the table.

An alliance between two business families

The openness is born from the collaboration between Bouzón and the Martínez Abolafio Group, two families with different business trajectories who find a common project here.

During the opening, Laura Bouzón claimed precisely that balance between continuity and evolution: preserve tradition and know where it comes from without giving up innovation. This approach is also reflected in the format chosen for Lanzarote.

The traditional restaurant will coexist with The Rias Bar, more informal in nature and with dishes designed to share; a private space called Upper Space; catering and events service; and a specific brunch proposal during the weekends.

It is not about, therefore, just to move a letter from one island to another. The intention expressed by those responsible is to maintain the identity of the house and, at the same time, allow the Lanzarote headquarters to develop its own personality.

«Lanzarote has a lot of personality», Bouzón pointed out, convinced that the new space will allow "creating something new, something alive" that can evolve as its relationship with the island does.

In a Canarian restaurant where the openings frequently look towards brands from abroad, This time the Rías Bajas route proposes the opposite movement: a project born and consolidated in the Canary Islands that is beginning to grow within the Archipelago itself.
