The gastronomic space of La Radio Canaria begins 7 October a new stage with José Luis Reina, Mulchand Chanrai and Francisco Bastarrica

With Turmeric Radio changes stage after 434 programs and almost nine years of broadcasts and podcasts dedicated to telling about the gastronomy of the Canary Islands. The next 7 October, José Luis Reina will assume the direction of the space Canarian Radio, in a relay prepared during the last weeks and staged in a final installment (Wednesday, 30 September at 21:00 hours and Saturdays, rebroadcast at 00:00 hours, in addition to his stay on the podcast of the same name) that had a lot of farewell, but also a presentation of what is coming.

Queen will be accompanied by Mulchand can, who will assume executive production and continue to provide expert commentary on wines, while Francisco Bastarrica will remain in charge of production and technical controls.

It does not mean, however, the disappearance of Francisco Belín from the airwaves. The journalist who has marked this stage of the program will continue to be linked to Con Cúrcuma with his own section, “Word of Belin”, conceived as a space for opinion and gastronomic analysis.

The change of baton was summarized at the end of the program with just two words. Belín turned to Reina and told her: «All yours!».

A farewell in the form of a tasting menu

The program 434 avoided becoming a succession of balance sheets and goodbyes. Reina and Belín shared the direction of a delivery planned as a kind of radio tasting menu, alternating interviews, guests, memories and fragments recovered from almost nine years of archiving.

Among the voices that joined the farewell were the sommelier Rasa Strankauskaite, especially linked to the program since its beginnings; Albert Adrià, Enigma chef in Barcelona; María Ritter, Repsol Guide Director, and the Tenerife restaurateur Manoj Lakhani.

There was also time for gastronomic news.

José Luis Reina spoke with Borja Marrero, head of Muxgo, at the Santa Catalina hotel in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, after his participation in the Orígenes Congress.

Francisco Belín moved the microphones to the Tivoli hotel to delve deeper into the Red Tuna Kaitai recently held in Tenerife, a Japanese butchering demonstration followed by about 180 guests. There he spoke with Javier García Olivares, establishment director; Isabel Peribáñez, sales manager in Spain at Balfegó; Jorge Quintela, executive chef, and Juan José Romano, Antonio de Miguel sales manager for the south of Spain.

The program also included a conversation between Reina and Paco “Dangerous” Pérez, master rum maker and engineer from Gran Canaria linked to the Peligroso Pérez Distillery.

Belín, for his part, recovered the intervention of the Galician chef Javier Olleros, by Culler de Pau, at the Origins Congress in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where he addressed the relationship between restaurant and territory and some of his work around black oats.

Nine gastronomic islands in the archive

The closure also served to look back.

Francisco Bastarrica prepared a selection of clips from interviews broadcast during these years, on which José Luis Reina provided new readings and Mulchand Chanrai intervened when wine entered the scene.

The selection drew a small gastronomic geography of the Archipelago.

They appeared Francisco Cabrera, talking about gofio in Fuerteventura; Davide Musci, around Quinado wine and Lanzarote vermouth; Carmelo Florido, from the kitchen of Gran Canaria; Eduardo Perez, with onions from Carrizal in Tenerife; o Vicky Torres, Giving voice to the wines of La Palma.

They also returned to the file Juan Carlos Clemente, with the tunas of the Canary Islands and the snoring; Miguel Navarro, from the haute cuisine of La Gomera; Lorena Machín, with the seafood cuisine of El Hierro, y Laura Lopez, around edible flowers and plants.

More than a collection of names, The tour allowed us to remember one of the characteristics that Con Cúrcuma has maintained during these years: look at Canarian gastronomy as a broad territory, with products, chefs, different producers and speeches according to each island.

Belín is not leaving at all

The until now executive producer, Francisco Almagro Alonso, He also put words at the end of this stage, showing the team's satisfaction with the path taken and supporting the relay to Reina and Chanrai.

And when it seemed like it was time to close a door permanently, came the announcement of the next.

Francisco Belín will continue on the air with “Word of Belin”, a fixed section of an editorial and analytical nature that will close the first hour of the Wednesday program. Con Cúrcuma also maintains its rebroadcast and second hour content on Saturdays starting at midnight.

It will be a way to preserve part of the memory of the space without preventing the new team from building its own stage.

He program 435, already under the direction of José Luis Reina, It will be the first of that new cycle.

After 434 deliveries, With Turmeric you don't say goodbye.
