The KmO Fair brings together productions of 25 categories and a wide representation of farmers and processors from the Southeast of Gran Canaria
The Km0 Gran Canaria Fair celebrated its fortieth edition this weekend in Ingenio with the participation of 45 island producers, gathered in the Plaza de la Candelaria to sell their products directly to the public.
Fruits and vegetables, cheeses, Honey, Wines, pan, confectionery, oil, olives, café, beer, sal, jams, pasta, flores, plants and sweet cane guarapo are part of an offer distributed in 25 categories.
The edition has, besides, a marked regional character: more than 65% of the participants come from Ingenio, Agüimes and Santa Lucía de Tirajana, the three municipalities that make up the Southeastern Commonwealth.
From the garden and the cheese factory directly to the consumer
One of the main features of the format was once again the direct sales, without intermediaries between producer and consumer.
During the two days, farmers, Livestock farmers and small agri-food companies had a space to market their products and directly explain their origin and production methods..
Since its inception, the fair has been expanding the variety of products present.. Together with references traditionally associated with the primary sector, like fruit, vegetables, cheese or honey, elaborations such as craft beers have gained space, cafés, oils, bakery products, jams or pasta.
According to figures provided by the organization, During its six years of history, the project has had more than 385 producers and would have accumulated more than 450.000 visitors between its different editions.
Two fairs shared space
The gastronomic event coincided this year with the tenth Sun Fair, dedicated to renewable energies, self-consumption, sustainable mobility and different technological solutions.
Both activities shared the Plaza de la Candelaria during the weekend, although with clearly differentiated contents: while Km0 focused its activity on food and island production, The Feria del Sol brought together companies related to the energy field.
The Km0 Fair is promoted by the Commonwealth of the Southeast and has the collaboration of different administrations. The president of the Council, Antonio Morales, He participated in the opening of the meeting along with municipal representatives and during his speech defended the consumption of local products and the maintenance of agricultural activity..
Beyond institutional discourses, The edition left a fairly specific photograph of the sector: 45 producers gathered in the same space and an offer that showed the growing diversity of the Gran Canaria pantry.
