Destilerías Arehucas obtains recognition that certifies that the company manages and produces its sugar cane in an ecological way

Destilerías Arehucas takes another step in its commitment to sustainability by obtaining the ecological operator certification, a recognition that certifies that the company manages and produces its sugar cane in an ecological way.

To achieve this certification, Arehucas has carried out a rigorous conversion process for three years in which it has implemented sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural techniques.. During this period, The distillery has thoroughly recorded all operations carried out on the plantation and has adopted innovative measures for weed management, such as the introduction of chickens that eliminate the seeds of unwanted species, thus avoiding the use of chemical herbicides. Besides, No chemicals or synthetic fertilizers have been used, using only concentrated vinasse instead, a byproduct of distillation, in addition to animal manure.

This certification must be renewed annually, thus ensuring the maintenance of the strict processes developed during the conversion. This implies continuing with the ecological management of the plantation, without resorting to chemicals or synthetic fertilizers.

Beyond its ecological certification, Arehucas continues to advance in sustainability initiatives that encompass its entire production process: – Renewable energy: The company has incorporated photovoltaic panels in its distillery with the aim of, in the future, he 100% of its energy consumption comes from renewable sources – Production efficiency: Its fermentation and distillation machinery has been optimized to reduce the carbon footprint, requiring less water and
energy in the production of rum – Sustainable transport: Arehucas has begun the transition towards a fleet of hybrid and electric vehicles for its commercial team, minimizing CO₂ emissions in its daily operations – Waste reduction: the distillery has eliminated the use of single-use plastic cups at events and concerts, betting exclusively on reusable cups to encourage more responsible consumption These initiatives and the desired recognition as an ecological operator arrive just in time for the start of the harvest in the sugar cane plantations of Arehucas. This year, the harvest will start 11 March at Finca Las Vegas, in Arucas, a privileged enclave whose strategic location, Protected by mountains and proximity to the sea, provides optimal climatic conditions for the cultivation of sugarcane.

The result of the harvest, along with the dedication and care in the cultivation of sugar cane, translates into the exceptional Arehucas rums: balanced products with great aromatic intensity, whose essence comes directly from the cane and a meticulous fermentation system. Added to this are rigorous distillation processes, that guarantee the purity and complexity of the sensory profile, and careful aging in selected barrels, where rum acquires its unique and refined character. All of this makes up the excellence that distinguishes Arehucas and reinforces its legacy in the rum tradition..
