The XII Tenerife Pinolere Island Cheese Competition 2025 meeting 70 cheeses 29 cheese factories on the island of Teide
The Noble Hall of the Cabildo hosted this afternoon (Monday 23) the awards ceremony XII Tenerife Pinolere Island Cheese Competition 2025, an event that was chaired by the Primary Sector counselor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Valentín González, and which was attended by the general director of Livestock of the Government of the Canary Islands, Andrés Díaz Matoso, the president of the Pinolere Cultural Association, Leoncio Luis, and the president of the Association of Artisan Cheese Producers of Tenerife, Santiago Gonzalez.
During the awards ceremony, the Primary Sector advisor of the insular institution, Valentín González, highlighted “initiatives like this, that serve to promote our local products, contributing to the promotion of the primary sector as a fundamental economic activity for the sustainable development of any society.”.
To the 12th edition of the Tenerife Pinolere Island Cheese Competition 2025 A total of 70 types of cheese, coming from 29 cheese shops from all over the island. Besides, 23 Renowned tasters and gourmets evaluated the different cheese samples, rating both its external appearance and appearance when cut, as its olfactory-gustatory characteristics.
González highlighted that “through this contest, We intend to support the livestock and cheese sector, considering the importance, prestige and recognition of Tenerife livestock in general, and specifically Tenerife cheese, as a quality gastronomic product, with its own identity sign”.
The different categories established for the contest were: fresh cheeses, smoked fresh, tender, semi-cured and cured/old/aged, both raw milk and pasteurized milk. There will also be a category of non-traditional cheeses: vegetable rennet, lactic acid coagulation or special coverages, among others.
The winners were:

– Gold medal: Raw goat's milk cheese covered with ash and penicillium candidum 'El Minero', made by Quesería 'Granja Ara' (Saint Ursula)
– Silver Medal: Semi-cured cheese made from raw goat's milk, made by Quesería 'Fuente de La Tosca' (Passion fruit)
– Bronze Medal: Raw goat's milk blue cheese, made by Quesería 'Fuente de La Tosca' (Passion fruit)
