Lanzarote will be more present than ever on its sister island with a wide representation of wineries, food and artisan products manufacturing companies
The Agricultural Fair, Livestock and Fishing of Fuerteventura (UGLY) 2024 was inaugurated this Thursday with an event held in the institutional warehouse of the fairgrounds located in the Blackwell Experimental Farm. The opening ceremony was carried out by the island president, Lola Garcia, the vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Dominguez, the mayor of Antigua and Minister of Agriculture, Cabildo Livestock and Fishing, Matias Pena, and the advisor of the regional executive area, Narvay Quintero.
This year the fair opens with record participation of professionals and companies and entities related to the sector, the president explained Lola Garcia, with more than 250 positions among professionals, companies in the sector, groups and complementary services throughout the Canary Islands.
UGLY 2024 has 61 stands in the commercial warehouse, 24 in the institutional warehouse, 31 in the area of producers and 58 at the artisan market. This edition will receive around 500 specimens of small and large cattle, including this year also horses. The fair has modern facilities in line with today's needs.. The facility has 5.000 square meters for commercial stands, 2.500 square meters for institutions and 3.500 square meters for goats and livestock.
The fair returns activities as consolidated as XX edition of the National Goat's Milk Cheese Competition - Tabefe Awards, one of the benchmark events within the programming of UGLY that in 2023 received the participation of more than a hundred cheese factories from all over Spain.
New this year, he Fuerteventura Town Hall will pay tribute to all those professionals in the primary sector who had the vision and who have contributed for forty years to the consolidation of the UGLY. They recover, besides, the traditional trick, horse racing and display of the majorero bardino, among other activities. Another of the great attractions of the fair is the manual milking contest or the stallion auction.. In this last act, The highest bid took place last year for 1.400 euros.
