Luis Miguel Fleitas, natural from Breña Alta, student of CIPF Virgin of Las Nieves of Santa Cruz de La Palma, has been proclaimed winner of 9º Canary Islands Championship of Young Female and Male Chefs Binter Grand Prize, which took place this Wednesday at the Tenerife Fairgrounds, within the framework of 9º Gastronomic Hall of the Canary Islands-GastroCanarias 2024.
The recipe for the first place winner is endowed with 600 euros. The second prize, endowed with 400 euros, it was for Maria Dolores Delgado (Lanzarote), while the third position, endowed with 300 euros, it was for María del Carmen Cortés Umpiérrez (Fuerteventura).
The prize of 300 euros to the best assistant went to Luisa Maria Monteiro De Sousa (Lanzarote), who earns the right to participate, you decide it, in the next edition of the championship.
The participants prepared a dish that had as its inspiration and common thread what is known as “The Kitchen in Green.”, which translates into sustainable cuisine, based on fresh and healthy foods, quality and proximity.
The jury in charge of evaluating them was made up of Alberto Guanche González, Director of Communication at Binter Canarias; Lourdes Fernandez Lopez, president of the Tenerife Gastronomy Academy; Iciar Pérez Cejas, head chef at Moral Restaurant; José Luis Conde García, gastronomic journalist from Diario de Avisos and Sergio Lojendio Quintero, gastronomic journalist for the newspaper El Día.
The Young Chefs Championship is reserved exclusively for students of Secondary Education Institutes (IES) and the polytechnic schools of the Canary Islands, who are in the last year of the Cooking training cycles, Hospitality, Restoration and Tourism.
The objective is to recognize and value kitchen professionals in the Archipelago, highlighting the need for them to have the best theoretical and practical training; and encourage students to promote their personal trajectories by pursuing excellence with experiences like this, for tomorrow to face other national or international challenges.
