The Tenerife native beat Iván Pulido, from Gran Canaria, to Fernando Guadalupe, from La Graciosa, and seven other rivals, with the La Graciosa hake as the main protagonist

The Tenerife chef Guillermo García Santos (Taste 1973), has been proclaimed winner of the 18º Canary Islands Cooking Championship – Gran Premio Cabildo de Tenerife, held within the framework of the 9th Gastronomic Fair of the Canary Islands.

García Santos beat Gran Canaria Ivan Pulido, that in his seventh attempt he wins the runner-up position, and to the funny man Fernando Guadalupe, who completed the podium.

The applicants, ten in total, they had a main ingredient, known a few hours before the contest: the hake of The Gracious. And they had to prepare a second dish, in a surprise box containing rabbit meat.

For the first course, with fresh hake The Gracious as a mandatory ingredient, Guillermo prepared a recipe titled “Merluza de La Graciosa” inspired by three great techniques: Joel Robuchón's mashed potatoes, Ana Gago's pil pil and Marisa's famous frying in the Echaurren portal.

For the second recipe, made with the ingredients of a Surprise Box, Guillermo prepared rabbit food. These preparations decided the first prize in their favor, provided with 1.500 euros.

The second place, endowed with €1,000, It was for Ivan Pulido Rodríguez (Gran Canaria); and third place, endowed with 500 euros, It was for Fernando Guadalupe (Gran Canaria).
