The Km Fair.0 Gran Canaria celebrates its 33rd edition in Telde with a tribute to the sea and local products
The Minister of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Crafts of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, inaugurated this Saturday the 33rd edition of the Km Fair.0 Gran Canaria, which is celebrated throughout the weekend in the Melenara Urban Park (Counted). The meeting brings together 40 producers from all over the island, of which 20 belong to the host municipality, consolidating this event as one of the main showcases of local and proximity products.
In his speech, The counselor highlighted “the importance of this type of spaces, that allow the public to bring the work and effort of those who support the productive fabric of Gran Canaria closer to the public.”. Alonso stressed that “the Km Fair.0 not only boosts the local economy and sustainability, but it reinforces pride in what is ours, for the kilometer zero product and for the producers who are an essential part of the landscape and identity of this island”.
In this edition, the Km Fair.0 directs its gaze towards the coast with the purpose of recognizing the work of the artisanal fishing sector. The Melenara Fishermen's Cooperative occupies a prominent place in the area, as a symbol of the connection between the sea and the local economy, and the relevance of the municipality of Telde as one of the main fishing centers of Gran Canaria.
In addition to fishing representation, Attendees can enjoy a wide sample of products made in the municipality, like the wines of Bodega La Higuera Mayor, Fennel Winery and Señorío de Cabrera; Colmenar La Violeta honey; the artisanal ice creams of Helados El Canario; Isla Bonita jams or Lomo Gallego cheeses, among many others.
During the opening ceremony, The counselor was accompanied by the Primary Sector councilor, María González Calderín, who agreed to highlight the value that this fair has to make visible the talent and quality of the municipality's producers.
The Km Fair.0 Gran Canaria aims to boost the local economy, promote responsible and sustainable consumption and recognize the work of small producers who, day by day, They work to keep agriculture alive, the livestock, fishing and crafts of the island. In their 32 previous editions, has been visited by more than 328.000 people and has had the participation of 365 producers from all the municipalities of Gran Canaria.
The Telde edition is promoted by the Telde City Council, through the Saborea Telde program, and by the Ministry of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Crafts of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, in collaboration with Gran Canaria I like it, Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, Gran Canaria Tourism, Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA) and Cajasiete, with the Elipse organization, Event Management
