The workers of Hoteles Escuela de Canarias, Hecansa, they had been without collective bargaining for ten years
He Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) published this Monday, 25 of August, the entry into force of the new collective agreement for the staff of Hoteles Escuela de Canarias (Hecansa) what, among other news, includes improvements in the remuneration and working conditions of almost 200 workers from all the centers dependent on this public company attached to the Department of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The document, with retroactive effects from the 1 January 2025 and valid for four years, It is the result of several months of negotiations between the company management and the workers' representation after ten years without an agreement.
The Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jessica de Leon, has once again expressed its satisfaction, stating that “with the new agreement, which began negotiating in November 2023 after years without agreement, working conditions of all staff are improved, but, besides, “Measures are included that make the sector more attractive to attract a new generation of professionals.”.
The document is distributed in ten titles, four additional provisions and two annexes in which, among other measures, The option of functional and geographical mobility of staff is regulated and compensation for teaching activity is incorporated because the educational field is the essential objective of the company., among other improvements.
The new Hecansa collective agreement is the result of a negotiation between the management of the public company and the UGT union organizations, USO and CSIF who “we must thank for their involvement and spirit shown throughout the entire process”, Leon assured, which also highlighted the involvement of the CEO of Hecansa, Paola Plasencia, for their work so that this document went forward with improvements for the template.
The new agreement contemplates an update of the salary tables to the successive increases authorized for the company between the years 2014 y 2025 with a structure distributed by professional groups, base salary, two extraordinary bonuses and a vacation bag, in addition to the possibility that workers who occupy positions of special responsibility receive functional supplements, no consolidables.
Regarding working conditions, a working day is set 35 weekly hours and the supplement is recognized up to one hundred percent of remuneration in the situation of incapacity for work. Another improvement refers to the adaptation of paid permits and licenses and their duration to current regulations., in addition to also regulating remote work.
