Quote, developed in the historic Bodega San Juan, put the finishing touch to the “Santa Brígida con Vinos” program
The Gran Canaria Wine Route participated this Monday, next to the Santa Brígida City Council and the Gran Canaria Cabildo, in the I Professional Conference on Wines of Santa Brígida, a meeting that brought together restaurateurs, sommeliers, growers, collectors, oenophiles, catering professionals and representatives of Michelin star restaurants in a space for reflection and promotion of Satauteño wine. Quote, developed in the historic Bodega San Juan, put the final touch on the program “Saint Brigida with Wines”, promoted throughout the month of November by the municipality to make visible the potential of its wine sector.
The day began with the institutional reception and the official inauguration by the advisor of the Primary Sector, Food Sovereignty and Water Security of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Miguel Hidalgo, accompanying Mayor José Armengol and the Councilor for Rural Development, Commerce and Tourism, Carmen Judge. Posteriorly, Attendees participated in a guided tour of the century-old winery, followed by a professional tasting of Santa Brígida wines, offered personally by each winemaker in the municipality.
Posteriorly, The round table “The wine of Santa Brígida” took place: identity, trends and professional vision”, which included the participation of Álvaro González Santana, manager of the Gran Canaria Wine Route; María Chaxiraxi Triana Higuera, de Canarywine; Rafael Hurtado Gil, maître-sommelier of the Hermanos Padrón restaurant; Carmelo Pena Santana, High Altitude Winery; and José Domingo Deniz Santana, Rincón del Guiniguada Winery.
During the debate, the current challenges of the market were delved into, the role of local identity as a competitive advantage and the need for a joint strategy to strengthen the position of the municipality's wines inside and outside the island.
The manager of the Wine Route, Alvaro Gonzalez Santana, highlighted that “Santa Brígida has a unique wine heritage in Gran Canaria: historic wineries, innovative family projects and a very committed professional community. This day demonstrates that when the sector meets and shares a vision, We all move forward.”.
González also stressed that “the closing of ‘Santa Brígida con Vinos’ with a professional day sends a clear message: The municipality is committed to a model based on quality, landscape and culture, and the Wine Route will always be aligned with that roadmap”.
The meeting concluded with a networking space between professionals and a tasting snack served by the Hospitality students of the IES Felo Monzón., which once again highlighted the role of vocational training in the continuity and excellence of the sector.
With this day, the Santa Brígida City Council, The Island Council and the Gran Canaria Wine Route reaffirm their commitment to promoting the wine sector, considered an essential pillar for rural development, economic and tourist of the municipality and the island territory.
