The Canary Islands proposes a trip through the volcanic gastronomy through its local products at Gourmets 2025, the Quality Food and Beverage Fair
The 38th edition of the International Quality Food and Beverage Fair 'Salón Gourmets’ started this Monday, 7 of April, with the presence of a hundred Canarian companies in the sector that attend the event thanks to the support of the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), Rural Environment Management (GMR Canarias) y Proexca, with the collaboration of the seven island councils and the General Directorate of Fisheries, to expose in this international showcase the unique singularities of local Canarian products as the basis of a volcanic gastronomy.
Both traditional productions and cheeses, the wines, the gofios or the mojos, such as the elaborations of emerging and thriving sectors of the Canarian agri-food sector, among these, las cider, oils or coffee, will be present at the institutional stand of 510 m² enabled by the regional Executive and the island corporations so that the producers of the islands can promote and seek new commercial opportunities for their brands.
According to the vice-counselor of the Primary Sector of the Ministry of Agriculture,, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, Eduardo Garcia, “In the current context of competition with productions from third countries and new tariff policies, the commitment to productions of differentiated quality becomes even more important., a line that the European Commission also highlights in its new Vision for the future of the European primary sector, and the active search for new markets while consolidating our positioning in those in which we already have a presence”.
In this sense, the director of the ICCA, Luis Arraez Guadalupe, He referred to the quality and uniqueness of Canarian products, “increasingly valued inside and outside our borders, as demonstrated by the numerous recognitions obtained in international competitions and competitions, as, recently, el Wines from Spain Awards 2025, organized by ICEX and Mundus Vini.
Besides, the CEO of GMR Canarias, Juan Antonio Alonso, indicated that “Our presence at this fair is part of a strategy to support the foreign marketing of Canarian products as the basis of a gastronomy that differentiates the Canary Islands as a tourist destination through its rich culinary offer that promotes synergies between the primary sector and tourism from the defense of the territory., sustainability and our rural environment”.
More than 30 activities at the Canary Islands stand
Throughout the four days of the Salón Gourmets celebration, The Canary Islands exhibition module hosts around thirty activities, including presentations and commented tastings., organized by the respective councils under the coordination of the ICCA, of products from the islands recognized with a differentiated quality seal, such as cheeses or wines with Protected Designation of Origin (DOP), in addition to other productions such as chocolates, tobacco liquors, gin, palm butters or syrups.
For your part, GMR Canarias organizes two training workshops in this space. On the one hand, the sommelier and president of the Association of Artisan Vermouths of Spain, Susana Herranz, proposes the pairing of these Canarian preparations with plantain tostones, dark chocolate or nuts with sea salt from the archipelago; y, for another, Sheila Rodriguez, farmer and manager of the La Cosma nursery, offers a guided tasting of tropical fruit trees to encourage attendees to explore their applications in gourmet cuisine, among other restoration trends.
Finally, The fair also hosts the II Tasting-Meeting of Canarian Wine Ambassadors, which will bring together former students of the six editions of the Canarian Wine Ambassadors Course to update knowledge, taste new references and strengthen your connection with the wine identity of the islands, under the expert guidance of sommeliers Ana Angélica Hernández and Nuria España.
In addition, throughout the opening day, GMR Canarias, through brand Volcanic Xperience, coordinates, together with the General Directorate of Fisheries, the activities that take place on the main stage of Gourmets.
