Canary Island cider is consolidated at the International Show

Island preparations return with 15 awards, surpassing traditional regions such as Asturias or Euskadi

A total of fifteen Canarian ciders have been awarded in the fourteenth edition of the SISGA International Gala Sidres Fair, celebrated from 26 al 29 September in the Asturian city of Gijon. The archipelago's productions received the highest number of recognitions among Spanish productions., that add up in total 47 recognitions, and surpass in awards Asturias o the Basque Country, con 11 awards respectively.

Of the total of the award-winning regional ciders, eleven come from Gran Canaria, three of Tenerife and one of The Palm. The eight wineries distinguished in this international cider event have been Bodegas FRP, The Valleseco winepress, Fierro, Valley Trail y Tuscany, of Gran Canaria; Israel Hernandez del Valle y Stage, of Tenerife; y Castro & Magan SL., of The Palm.

In the brut sparkling cider category, distinguished himself with a gold Red Brut Fog, and with a silver Brut Black Mist, both from Bodegas FRP. Brut Traditional Method from El Lagar de Valleseco, Brut Nature anchors from Tuscany, y Brut de Stage They were also recognized with silver medals.

In the dry glass cider group it won gold The Mirla Sidrera of Castro & Magan SL, the money went to Tuscany Extra Cider, and the bronze fell to Natural cider from El Lagar de Valleseco. In the semi-dry glass cider category, the production was awarded a silver El Lagar de Valleseco Traditional semi-dry method.

Regarding sparkling ciders, in the category “dulce”, The Secret Valley, of Sendero del Valle achieved a silver; and in “semisaca” was recognized Stage with other money.

In the pear cider category, Iron Perada won the bronze and in the flavored cider, the money went to The Secret Valley Fig Cider, from Sendero del Valle. Finally, in the form of other ciders, they got bronzes, the productions Lobo, from El Lagar de Valleseco and Valley Cider, by producer Israel Hernández del Valle.

The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), facilitated the presence of ten cider houses from the archipelago in this event, covering the shipping to Asturias of the samples that competed with other German brands, Austria, Chile, United States or Japan, among other countries.

He SISGA International Show 2024, that pursues the internationalization of this product and the interrelation between the participants in the event, is organized by the Asturies XXI Foundation, in collaboration with the Caja Rural de Xixón Foundation, La Sidra magazine, and the Gijón City Council.
