The XIII Wine Fair, Cheese and Honey It will be held this year on the weekend of 2 y 3 November and will take place in Villa de Santa Brigida, moving for the third time to this municipality. This event, organized by the Commonwealth of Medianías and which has gained regional relevance throughout its editions, seeks to value local products Gran Canaria, with the aim of attracting both the local population and visitors from other islands.

The Cabildo has supported the fair continuously since it began in 2010, and in this edition he does it again with a grant from 50.000 euros, through the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Crafts, directed by Minerva Alonso, while the Ministry of Primary Sector and Food Sovereignty managed by Miguel Hidalgo, organizes a tasting room dedicated to island productions that will be present during the two days of the fair.

This is what the president of the insular institution explained., Antonio Morales, this Monday during the presentation that took place at Casa Palacio accompanied by the president of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Medianías of Gran Canaria, Francisco Atta, together with representatives of the town councils that form it and the general director of Livestock of the Government of the Canary Islands.

“It is an event that not only contributes to us eating fresher but also protects our territory and our identity”, declared the president, who reiterated the need to “support, protect and value the work of the men and women who support the rural world, and that's what events like this do.".

An event that also had the presence of Araceli Armas, Councilor for Commerce, Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing of San Bartolomé de Tirajana; José Miguel Bravo de Laguna, mayor of Santa Brígida, and Davinia Falcón, mayor of Vega de San Mateo, as well as the general director of Livestock of the Government of the Canary Islands, Antonio Diaz.

This year, they will participate 91 brands, distributed in 55 stands, which include 25 of wines, 49 of cheeses, 7 of honey and 10 related to the guest product. Besides, The products selected for this edition include chocolates, sal, pickles, dried goods and liquors, all coming from territories linked to the Canary Islands Biosphere Reserve.

The fair has several fundamental objectives: create an event that promotes open commercial areas in the towns where it is celebrated, offer a regional showcase for local products, and help small artisan companies in the primary agricultural sector to explore new marketing channels. With this philosophy -Morales stressed- “The Wine Fair, “Queso y Miel is consolidated as a benchmark in the promotion of local production and sustainability in Gran Canaria”.

Regarding the program, It should be noted that, during the event, Attendees will be able to enjoy various tastings such as culinary preparations based on local products, highlighting the baifo meat and lamb from Gran Canaria. These gastronomic proposals include the tasting of two dishes prepared by Hecansa chefs, within the framework of the 'Eat goat for Christmas' and 'Between lambs and stoves' campaigns, promoted by local producer associations. Besides, The project 'Ecoschools of the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve' will be presented, focused on sustainability. There will also be several commented tastings of island products., including cheeses, wines and ciders from Gran Canaria, organized in different classrooms to enrich the gastronomic experience and promote native flavors.
