The regional government grants 146 Agrocanarias Awards for the best of the Canarian agri-food product of the archipelago

The Department of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), has recognized today, 11 from December, the excellence of the agri-food products of the archipelago with the delivery to the Adán Martín Auditorium in Tenerife of a total of 146 awards for the best wines, cheeses, gofios and ciders from the islands, awarded both special distinctions and grand gold medals, gold and silver, within the framework of the Official Agrocanarias Competitions 2025.

The area counselor, Narvay Quintero, congratulated all the winners “for being the authors of the best products of differentiated quality in the archipelago”. Presented by journalists Miguel Ángel Daswani and Yaiza Díaz, and enlivened by the music of the timplista Benito Cabrera, guitarist Tomás Fariña and vocalist Paula Gómez, The gala was attended by award-winners from all the islands., the management team of the Ministry of Agriculture and other members of the Canarian Government, authorities of regional and local public administrations, representatives of the island councils, of Agricultural Professional Organizations, Fishermen's Guilds, the Regulatory Councils of the different Protected Designations of Origin of the Archipelago, of primary sector companies and producer organizations, and teaching staff and students of the Tacoronte Agrarian Training School, among other attendees.

In this edition of the contest, they have participated 517 productions, of which 227 They entered the wine competition, 226 cheese, 41 to the gofios and 23 to of sidras, which were awarded a total of 146 awards, between special distinctions, big gold medals, gold and silver.

Brumas de Ayosa red wine was the winner in the wine competition, prepared by the SAT wine growers of the Güímar region under the protected name (DOP) Güímar Valley (Tenerife). Of the 227 samples received from 60 wineries from all over the Archipelago were recognized 59 in the different categories.

In the cheese room, El Minero production of raw goat milk covered with ash and Penicillium candidum, prepared by ara farm (Tenerife) received the distinction of Best Cheese of the Canary Islands, between the 226 samples corresponding to 73 cheese factories from the islands that participated in this contest that distributed 61 awards.

On the other hand, the medium roasted millet gofio made by Molino de Gofio Buen Lugar SL (Firg, Gran Canaria) under the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) Remembering Canary, among a total of 41 products from 11 island mills, in an appointment in which they granted 18 awards.

Finally, in the cider competition, The natural foamy foam mixture, from Bodega Castro and Magán SL (Tags, The Palm), was chosen as the best in the Canary Islands among the 23 samples presented from nine wineries, in a competition that awarded eight awards.

In each of the contests, a panel composed of a total of 71 expert tasters -23 cheese, 22 of wine, 18 remember the 8 cider- has been in charge of deciding with his evaluations the award-winning productions. The evaluation of the samples is carried out following the blind tasting system, that is, without knowing what productions are being analyzed, since they are presented referenced with a numerical code.

During the event, the promotional video of the Regala Agrocanarias campaign was projected., spread on Social Networks and inspired this year by the legend of San Borondón, in which an interactive guide is presented with the establishments that sell award-winning productions in this contest. The 'Agrocanarias Friendly' award for the point of sale with the greatest number of references awarded in this edition went to, for the third consecutive year, in the “De la Tierra” store, by Alejandro Díaz (La Laguna Market, Tenerife), which has 78 distinguished Canarian preparations among its offer.
