The Minister of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, and the mayor of Valverde, Carlos Brito, presented this Friday, 27 September, the ‘Herreña Tapa Fair. Flavors of El Hierro-Valverde’, a gastronomic event that promotes the municipality's cuisine and Canarian products and will be held on the weekend of 5 y 6 October, in the Plaza de Santiago de la Villa, coinciding with the inauguration of this renovated space.
The Tapa Fair ‘Flavors of El Hierro’ will offer, over two days, an extensive program of activities for the whole family that will include commented tastings (of cheeses, Wines, yeast, remembered, sales, etc.), showcookings, presentations, craft workshops dedicated to the uses and customs of El Hierro, and live music, among other interesting proposals.
The press conference to present this initiative, organized by the Valverde City Council and the Government of the Canary Islands through the public company Gestión del Medio Rural de Canarias (GMR Canarias), It was also attended by the first deputy mayor and councilor for the Internal Regime, Personal, Treasury and Contracting of the Juan Pedro Sánchez Rodríguez municipality; and the Festival Councilor, Trade and Economic Development, Elizabeth Gutierrez Fernandez.
“The objective - he highlighted Quintero– is to boost the consumption of kilometer Canarian products 0, publicizing the richness of El Hierro cuisine and its gastronomic tradition, through the valorization of local products and the primary sector, and also represents very important support for the island's hospitality sector while promoting sustainable development.”.
For your part, the mayor of Valverde, Carlos Brito, pointed out that “It is an honor that our municipality hosts this Tapa Fair, with the island's products as protagonists and in an emblematic place historically linked to the primary sector, for the fair San Isidro“. He also adds “that frames and inaugurates a Santiago Square renewed, being the first of the many activities that this space will host for the capital of El Hierro”.
The Herreña Tapa Fair, will feature the participation of restaurants from the island, in total 32 companies, and will offer its visitors exquisite snacks and tapas, that will be based on products “of the earth”, at a price of 3 euros.

These productions are figs, piña, peto, alfonsiño, queso, Honey, cordero, goat or goat, seasonal organic vegetables, olive oil and gofio.
These can be accompanied by wines from the municipality of Valverde belonging to the Regulatory Council of the Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) The iron and craft beer from El Herreña, among other drinks.
This initiative is included within the framework of the initiative “Grow up together” of the Government of the Canary Islands, where the tourism sector and the primary sector work in a coordinated manner to defend local products as a key element to turn the Archipelago into a first-class gastronomic destination, under the brand umbrella “Volcanic Xperience”.
Raffle and contest
