The ceremony of awarding Diplomas to the sixth promotion of the Sommelier Course – organized by the Ycoden Daute Isora Wine Regulatory Council in collaboration with the DOP Islas Canarias Canary Wine through its Canary Wine Campus – took place last monday, 8 of July, at the headquarters of said Regulatory Councils, located in La Guancha, Tenerife.
For thirty years now, the Ycoden Daute Isora Denomination of Origin – in collaboration with the DOP Islas Canarias Canary Wine since its creation in 2011 – They have been relentlessly betting on training as a tool for improvement in the wine sector., One of the most prestigious training actions is its Sommelier Course, which has been taking place since last year. 2018 and in this act he graduated his VI class.
With this emotional act more than 275 hours of face-to-face teaching activity distributed over six months of training at the highest level with leading national and international teachers such as Paco del Castillo, Enrique Flores, Crazy Javier, Joaquin Galvez, Adonis Pino, Hugo Pérez del Valle, John Jesus Mendez Siverio, Rasa Strankauskaite, Miguel Ángel Guisado, Joan Casajuana, Ivan Monreal, Jose Casals del Rey, Zebina Hernandez, José Eugenio Alonso, David Seijas, Zoa Hernandez, Guillermina Sanchez, Tanaira Rodriguez, Victor Damian Dorta, Abel López Millán and Nuria Spain, among others.
During this time, the participating students have been able to technically discover the development of Viticulture and Oenology., know the wine geography of the Canary Islands, Spain and world, as well as its different wines and at the same time develop the different aspects of sensory analysis and its specificities. On the other hand, Special attention has been paid to identifying the functions and tasks of the Sommelier, developing a professional profile in accordance with them and knowing the winery in depth., as well as the management of its operation. Finally, They have been introduced to the knowledge and tastings of other products such as oils, cafés, beers, aguas, cheeses, yeast, vermouth, spirits, and pure tobacco.
The ceremony to present diplomas to the seventeen new sommeliers was chaired by José Sosa, president of the Ycoden Daute Isora Denomination of Origin, and by Juan Jesús Méndez Siverio, director of the Sommelier Course of the Canary Islands Wine Campus and president of the Canary Islands DOP – Canary Wine and was attended by Eugenio Alonso, member of the plenary session of the Regulatory Council of the Ycoden Daute Isora Denomination of Origin and teacher of the course, Felipe Monje member of the plenary session of the Regulatory Council of the Canary Islands Denomination of Origin – Canary Wine and on behalf of the students with María José Gorrín Lutzardo, on behalf of these.
