Canarian cider wins eight awards in the international SISGA competition 25, held in Asturias, and in which they participated 68 wine presses 18 different countries
A total of eight Canarian ciders have been awarded in the fifteenth edition of the International Gala Sidres Fair (to SIS), celebrated from 25 al 28 September in Gijón (Asturias). Among the productions of the distinguished islands, six received a silver medal and two obtained a bronze. They participated in the event 207 elaborations of 68 wine presses from 18 countries.
The five Canarian wineries awarded in this event have been Castro & Private, Tuscany, The Secret Valley, Lagar de Valleseco y Bodegas FRP. Regarding the origin of the award-winning Canarian productions, five are from Gran Canaria and three of The Palm.
In the dry glass cider category, Unfiltered Natural Cider stood out with a silver medal., produced by Lagar de Valleseco (Gran Canaria), as well as the natural and extra varieties of La Mirla Sidrera, produced by Castro & Private (The Palm).
A silver also went to this palm tree winery., in the brut sparkling ciders section, by La Mirla Sidrera Natural sparkling wine, production that received the award for Best Cider in the Canary Islands in the II Agrocanarian Cider Competition, organized by the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA) and celebrated last July. Besides, in the same category, got this metal brewing Fog Black Label, of Bodegas FRP (Gran Canaria).
He also won a silver medal., Tuscany Brut Nature Sparkling Cider (Gran Canaria) in the section dedicated to these varieties. This producer was also awarded a bronze in the dry glass cider category for its natural cider..
Finally, to complete the medal table of recognized Canarian productions, stood out among flavored ciders, the lemon variety produced by The Secret Valley (Gran Canaria).
The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), facilitated the presence of ten companies from the archipelago in this event, covering the shipping to Gijón of the samples that competed with other wineries in Asturias, the Basque Country, León, Galicia or Catalonia, as well as from countries with a cider tradition such as Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Chile, United States or Japan, among others.
The SISGA International Show 2025, that pursues the internationalization of this product and the interrelation between the participants in the event, It is organized by the Asturies XXI Foundation, in collaboration with the Caja Rural de Xixón Foundation, La Sidra magazine, and the Gijón City Council.
