The contest includes different categories depending on the type of milk—goat, vaca, sheep or mix—, the use of raw or pasteurized milk and the different stages of maturation: tender, semi-cured, cured, old and stale. Modalities linked to the type of coagulation and ripening with molds will also be assessed., both on the surface and inside.
The evaluation system will be carried out through blind tasting, with a panel of specialists who will evaluate the samples without knowing their origin. From your scores will come the Great Gold Medals, Gold Medals y Silver Medals, In addition to distinctions such as Best Cheese from the Canary Islands, Best Organic Cheese from the Canary Islands y Best Limited Production Cheese from the Canary Islands.
The contest will also incorporate the recognition of Best Popular Cheese of the Canary Islands, chosen by a panel of consumers, and the award for Best Cheese Chosen by the Children's Jury, focused on the production of goat milk valued by boys and girls.
The award-winning productions will be able to use the official badge of the award obtained for one year and will participate in the promotional actions that the ICCA organizes throughout the year.. Besides, the cheese chosen as Best Cheese from the Canary Islands 2026 will star in a broadcast report in specialized and general media.
With this call, Agrocanarias reinforces the role of cheese as one of the great identity products of the Islands and opens a new opportunity for Canarian cheese factories to gain visibility in the regional market, national and international.
