Two contests in the making: The Government of the Canary Islands calls for Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Gran Canaria for sandwiches with cheese from the island
The Department of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), has called the Official Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition (EVOO) Agrocanarias 2026 to distinguish the quality and promote the productions made in the Archipelago.
They will be able to participate in the contest, which will be held on the island of La Gomera on the days 18 y 19 March, natural or legal persons that produce, produce and package EVOO in the Canary Islands, in facilities that have the corresponding health authorization, are present in commercial channels and operate under their own brands, in addition to appearing in the national census of olive oil facilities and operators.
The best-scored preparations will be eligible for the “Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the Canary Islands 2026” distinctions., “Best Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil in the Canary Islands 2026” — aimed exclusively at products registered in the registry of organic production operators and that exceed the 65% of the maximum score—, and “Best Image and Presentation”, for which the labeling and packaging design will be assessed.
In addition, the production that obtains the highest score, as long as it reaches at least 85 points, will receive the Grand Gold Medal. Those that exceed the 80% of the score they will obtain a Gold Medal, and those that reach a minimum of 75%, Silver Medal.
The deadline for submitting applications ends at 23:59 hours of 3 March 2026.
