The medium roast millet gofio made by Molino de Gofio Buen Lugar SL under the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) Remembering Canary, has been recognized as the best of the Archipelago by the tasting panel of the Agrocanarias Competition 2025, that organizes the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), in this edition in collaboration with the Cabildo of La Palma.

Founded in 1958 in the Gran Canaria municipality of Firgas, The Gofio Buen-Lugar company produces its products using traditional stone grinding techniques.. For decades, The knowledge of the Almeida family has been passed from generation to generation as a commitment to natural production, that enhances the flavor, the aroma and texture of gofio, without giving up the continuous improvement and modernization of its production processes.

The Minister of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, and the director of the Agrifood Quality Canarian Institute (ICCA), Luis Arraez Guadalupe, announced today Thursday, 11 September, the award-winning productions at an event held at the headquarters of the autonomous body in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

In this edition of the contest, celebrated the days 30 y 31 July in La Palma, have participated 41 samples from eleven mills in the Canary Islands and a total of eighteen prizes have been awarded (twelve medals and six special distinctions). For this, during two days of tasting, a panel made up of specialist tasters selected, through the blind tasting system (without knowing what productions were valued) medals and distinctions.

In this way, through your votes, The jury decided to award special mention to Best Local Grain Gofio in the Canary Islands 2025, in addition to a big gold medal, to the preparation of chickpeas La Molina José María Gil, in Lanzarote. Besides, the award for Best Gofio Without Salt in the Canary Islands 2025, as well as a silver medal, it was for wheat production, millet and barley Grandfather Pancho Mill, prepared by Óscar Febles Méndez in El Hierro. In addition, the distinction to Best Image and Presentation 2025 fell on the gofio de millo San Pedro Mill, made by José Antonio Hernández Rivero in Gran Canaria.

Regarding the distinctions awarded by popular juries, he Best Gofio chosen by Our Elders 2025, who also won a gold medal, it was for Gofio La Escalona of wheat, produced in Tenerife by Carmen María Tacoronte Moreno. Finally, the prize Best Gofio chosen by the Children's Tasting Panel 2025, it was for Gofio La Piña wheat and millet, made by this company in Gran Canaria.

As for the big gold medals, Gofio La Escalona obtained this award in the millet-based preparations section while, in the category of gofio made from other cereals and/or legumes, won this medal La Máquina Molino de Gofio, for its wheat production, corn, barley and chickpea.

Regarding the gold medals, La Molina by José María Gil, in Lanzarote, won two of these metals, one in the millet and wheat mix category, and another for its wheat production, corn,barley and chickpea, in the gofio section made from other cereals or legumes. In addition, This producer obtained a silver medal for his production based on millet.

In addition, two silver medals to the productions of Moil from Gofio El Sauzal, by Eduardo Afonso González: one for its production of wheat and millet; and another for its production presented in the category of other cereals and legumes.

The medal table was completed with the silver awarded to Gofio La Escalona of wheat, barley and chickpea millet, prepared by Carmen María Tacoronte Moreno in Tenerife; al La Maquina Gofio Mill for its variety of wheat and millet, produced by Alexis García Amaro in Tenerife.
