It is the sixth time that the Majorera brand has won an award at the awards promoted by Agrocanarias
The arbequina-hojiblanca oil, of the brand Teguerey, of Fuerteventura, prepared by Luis Hernandez Santana, has been recognized as the best of Canary Islands in it Official Contest of Agricultural Agricultural 2024, organized by the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA) to distinguish and promote the best productions of the archipelago. This was announced today, Friday 23 February, the advisor of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero, and the director of ICCA, Luis Arraez Guadalupe, at the reading of the jury's decision.
The contest was attended by 28 productions from 17 oil mills, which represents an increase in 75% compared to the previous year. These are distributed in 13 of Fuerteventura (eight companies), six of Gran Canaria (three companies), four of Tenerife (of companies), three of The Palm (of companies), one of The iron (a company) and one of Lanzarote (a company),
with this award, the brand Teguerey adds six recognitions as Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the Canary Islands for their productions, an achievement that Luis Hernandez attributes to “their total dedication to this activity to guarantee a high quality product”. “This is achieved through careful attention to the state of maturation of the olive tree., the type of fertilizer used and the pruning technique, among other aspects”, he added.
Located in the municipality of Gardeners (Fuerteventura), The company has a plantation of more than 2.500 olive trees distributed in more than 85.000 Square meters. In the year 2023, produced 70 tons of olives and 10.000 liters of oil. Among the cultivated varieties are the arbequina, picual and white leaf. The tasting panel, made up of eleven tasters, specialists in the analysis of agri-food products, awarded the silver medal to Majorero Craving arbequina/picual (Fuerteventura), prepared by Cabrera y Cabrera S.A. The gold medal was awarded to Finca Soliviento (Fuerteventura) arbequina/picual/hojiblanca, prepared by Adrian Derk John Sparrow. Olive Palm (The Palm) picual/arbequina, prepared by Juan José Santos Cabrera, received the big gold medal, and the special distinction for best image and presentation went to El Refugio Estate, of Lanzarote, prepared by Flower Power Jardines S.A.
The competition was governed by a blind tasting system, where the jury evaluated the samples without knowing what brand they were tasting. In the olfactory phase, the intensity of the aromas and the fruitiness were evaluated. (green or ripe). A consolidated contest
