“We have products and professionals to be a gastronomic tourism destination”
The Palm has confirmed in Madrid Fusion 2024, fair held since last Monday, 29 February, and until Wednesday, day 31, at IFEMA, that has products, kitchen and professionals with talent and training to open a niche in national gastronomic tourism.
The defense of the island's pastry shop, also of the palmeros wines, the tradition of an artisanal rum and the synergy between a unique sky and top quality gastronomy, have been some of the outstanding proposals of Savor La Palma, project managed by the public company Sodepal with the support of the councils of Tourism and Agriculture. Besides, the talks about the palm tree cow, wheat stew, the almond cake, the leg of black pig or the sweet potato salad have had a clear role in this fair.
The CEO of Sodepal and responsible for Economic Promotion, MIRIAM PERESTELO, has emphasized that “the success achieved by The Palm in Madrid Fusion 2024 It is thanks mainly to the work carried out by the professionals who have defended our top quality products”, with presentations and tastings “that have been recognized by attendees”, both the general public and the primary sector specialists present in Madrid Fusion.
MIRIAM PERESTELO He specifically referred to the work of the cooks Juan Carlos Curpa, from the restaurant The Market; y Jorge Cruz, from the restaurant The Corner of Moraga; bakers and pastry chefs Rubén y Bryan Medina, of Zulay; Alicia Garcia, president of the Association of Tasters of El Amund; Emilio Rodriguez, bartender Village Distillery; and the popularizer of astronomy Antonio Gonzalez. He also remembered “the more than 40 companies and producers that have been fundamental in the promotion of The Palm as a gastronomic destination, collaborating with products that have made our island's stand one of the most attractive on Taste Spain”.
Cheeses, Wines, avocados, almonds, bananas, remember, oil, craft beers, ron, Honey, sweet potatoes, confectionery, black pig's foot... “The primary sector of The Palm “It has always been a reference”, a reality “that has been cultivated from generation to generation and that we must not forget is the basis of good gastronomy”, pointed out the counselor of Agriculture of the La Palma Town Council, Alberto Paz, who warned that “what has been seen of our island in Madrid Fusion, the success achieved, should not surprise us; It is simply the fruit of what we have.".
The objective of the island government is that the potential of La Palma gastronomy has a clear and manifest reflection in the tourism sector.. On purpose, the island director of Turismo, Beatriz Paez, has reflected on the “need” to enhance The Palm “as a destination with a wide range of alternatives that are attractive to visitors”, among which “gastronomy must play a relevant role”.
With participation in Madrid Fusion, Savor La Palma begins a program of actions both nationally and in other European countries that will extend throughout the year.
