The Canarian government, through ICCA, organized a commented tasting and master class under the motto "Oils from the Canary Islands, between volcanoes and ocean"

Canary Islands participated with its best oils in the World Olive Oil Exhibition, a meeting that met in Madrid for two days to buyers and producers from all over the world, which seek to consolidate their business and open new markets. The extra virgin olive oils awarded in the eighth edition of the Official Contest of Agricultural Agricultural 2024, organized by the Department of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, were the protagonists of the commented tasting and master class organized by the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA) in this meeting.

Under the motto “Oils from the Canary Islands, between volcanoes and ocean”, These activities try to value and promote the islands' productions.. Among the participating Canarian EVOOs were Teguerey arbequina-hojiblanca, of Fuerteventura, which has been chosen as the best oil Canary Islands within the framework of this contest. Other brands presented at the event have been Majorero Craving arbequina/picual (Plata), Finca Soliviento arbequina/picual/hojiblanca (Oro), y Olive Palm picual/arbequina (Great Gold).

During your participation in the fair, the director of ICCA, Luis Arraez Guadalupe, highlighted the strategic importance of the presence of Canary Islands at the most important EVOO fair, which adds three consecutive editions, as a platform to publicize Canarian productions, characterized by their high quality and distinctive features derived from the particular climatic conditions and volcanic soil of the archipelago. Dry subtropical climate, with stable temperature and limitation of cold hours, along with a limited thermal amplitude that does not allow the seasons to be clearly distinguished, are some of those determinants.

Currently, The olive sector in the Canary Islands is at a time of notable expansion with a cultivation area of ​​about 538 hectares and a production of more than a thousand tons of olives. This crop is concentrated mainly on the islands of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Tenerife y Lanzarote.
