OKA reopens this 18 June with lunches on weekends, Signature Japanese cuisine and views of the Atlantic, La Orotava and Teide
OKA, the signature japanese restaurant Grand Hotel Taoro, in Puerto de la Cruz, reopens its doors this Thursday, 18 of June, with a relevant novelty for the gastronomic agenda of the north of Tenerife: the addition of lunch service on weekends.
The proposal will allow you to enjoy the cuisine signed by Ricardo Sanz y Emiliano Liska, on a panoramic terrace open to the Atlantic, to the La Orotava valley and Teide. A different way to enter the OKA universe, until now more linked to the night experience, and to place Japanese haute cuisine in a diurnal register, slow and especially connected with the landscape.
The restaurant offers a tour in which Japan, the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands meet through technology, the season and the local product. The letter is structured around nigiris, usuzukuris, tartars, grilled preparations and creations that evolve according to the daily catch, with a look that does not seek to reproduce Japan from a distance, but interpret it from Tenerife.
The signature of Ricardo Sanz adds weight and context to the proposal. Considered one of the decisive figures in the consolidation of Japanese haute cuisine in Spain., He was the first chef to obtain a Michelin star in the country with international cuisine. And OKAY, His language finds continuity with Emiliano Liska, that adds a contemporary reading, precise and sensitive, built from balance and respect for each preparation.
The name of the restaurant itself, OKA —“hill” or “watchtower” in Japanese— is in dialogue with the hotel's location, elevated above Puerto de la Cruz and open to one of the most recognizable landscapes in the north of the island. From that height, the gastronomic experience takes on a scenic dimension: the Atlantic, Teide and the historic architecture of Taoro make up an unusual setting for signature Japanese cuisine.
Opening at noon reinforces precisely that relationship between cuisine and environment. During the day, The terrace gains prominence and turns lunch into a broader experience than the menu itself: luz, calm, product and after-meal in a space that aspires to consolidate itself as one of the gastronomic references of the new stage of the hotel.
The experience can be prolonged, besides, a Tagoror Lobby Bar & Lounge, located in the heart of Gran Hotel Taoro. Over there, lunch can lead to a signature cocktail, a drink or a selection of coffees and drinks, in an elegant atmosphere that invites you to extend your visit without rushing.
The reopening coincides with the celebration of International Sushi Day, also this one 18 of June, an especially opportune date to present a proposal that takes Japanese cuisine beyond the cliché and establishes it in a direct dialogue with the Canary Islands.
Grand Hotel Taoro, inaugurated in 1890 and considered the first large luxury hotel in Spain, is experiencing a new stage after its rehabilitation as a five-star establishment. Con 199 rooms, historic gardens, panoramic views and a decided commitment to gastronomy, The hotel reinforces its role as one of the most unique enclaves in Puerto de la Cruz.
To spaces like LAVA and Amalur, led by Erlantz Gorostiza, OKA joins under the direction of Ricardo Sanz, completing an offer that confirms the gastronomic ambition of Taoro. With these new weekend lunches, Japanese haute cuisine gains a new time slot and the north of Tenerife adds a plan with a landscape vocation, after-dinner and hotel memory.
