The Canary Islands obtain four grand golds and fourteen golds in its first participation in the Brazil Wine Challenge, with prizes for fourteen wineries
Canarian wines have debuted in the Brazil Wine Challenge with outstanding results: 18 awards for 14 Archipelago wineries. Of the 40 references submitted to the contest, he 45% got some recognition, with four major gold medals and fourteen gold medals.
The thirteenth edition of the contest was held from 16 al 19 of June in Bento Gonçalves, in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. The Canarian references competed with wines from 19 countries of four continents, including France, Italia, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, United States and Brazil.
The Minister of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero, valued the result as support for the work of wineries and winegrowers of the Archipelago. The participation of the Canary Islands in the contest had the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality and of Management of the Rural Environment of the Canary Islands, in coordination with the DEER, entity linked to the valorization of mountain viticulture.
The four major gold medals went to Abona Summits, by Natural Sweet Chasna Flower 2023; Gallo & Quíquere Wines, by Double Malvasía Gallo 2024; Bodega eruption, by Magmasia Miracle Selection 2023; y Bodegas Eidan, by Vijariego White Bowling 2024.
Besides, Abona Summits won two gold medals for Dry Testament 2025 y Flor de Chasna Tinto Barrel 2023, while Gallo & Quíquere Wines was recognized with gold for Muscat of Alexandria Rooster 2025.
They also won two gold medals. El Lomo Wineries, by Four Elijahs 2025 y 1989 Tinto 2023. To them were added the golds of Elysar Wineries, by Elysar Red 2025; Gavias del Sordo, by Papaíno Marshmallow 2025; and the SAT Viticultores Comarca de Güímar, by Dry White Ayosa Mists 2025.
The rest of the gold medals went to Onesima Pérez Vitega, by Vitega Albillo Criollo White 2025; Montoro Wineries, by Montoro White Barrel 2023; El Guanche Agricultural Farm, by Blanco Seco 2024; Reveron payments, by Reverón Malvasía Payments 2025; Payment lineage, by La Cerca Marmajuelo Blanco 2025; y Las Tirajanas Wineries, by Corral Plains 2023.
The Canarian presence in Brazil also included two master classes under the title "Canary Islands, volcanic territory, unique varieties”, taught by the director of the Canary Islands Oenological Station, José Luis González, and the vice president of CERVIM, Manuel Capote.
These sessions allowed us to present to professionals from the American continent some of the keys that differentiate Canarian viticulture.: volcanic soils, prephylloxeric varieties, traditional farming systems and a close relationship between the vineyard, landscape, biodiversity and agrarian identity.
The agenda was completed with two strategic meetings with importers and distributors in the region, aimed at promoting participating references and facilitating the entry of Canarian wines into new foreign markets.
He Brazil Wine Challenge met this year 1.127 samples coming from 190 bodegas. The evaluations were carried out through blind tasting by an international jury made up of 89 specialists of nine nationalities.
