The headquarters of the Regulatory Councils of the Denomination of Origin Ycoden Daute Isora and of the DOP Canary Islands – Canary Wine, en La Guancha, hosted the ceremony to present diplomas to the 16 students of the eighth class of Canary Islands Wine Campus Sommelier Course.
The program, that develops from 2018, Thus, it reaches its eighth edition and consolidates a line of specialized training linked to the Canarian wine sector.. The initiative is promoted by the D.O.. Ycoden Daute Isora and the Canary Islands DOP – Canary Wine, within its commitment to the professionalization and dissemination of wine culture.
For six months, the students completed more than 275 face-to-face teaching hours with viticulture content, oenology, sensory analysis, wine geography and winery management. The training paid special attention to the Canary Islands, to the whole of Spain and to the main producing regions of the world.
The course also included modules dedicated to products linked to the field of sommelier., like oils, cafés, beers, aguas, cheeses, yeast, vermouths, distillates and pure tobacco, with their corresponding technical tastings.
The event was chaired by Jose Sosa, president of the D.O. Ycoden Daute Isora; John Jesus Mendez Siverio, course director and president of the Canary Islands DOP – Canary Wine; y Gustavo Ibanez, on behalf of the students.
With this new promotion, The Canary Islands Wine Campus adds 16 professionals prepared to contribute to the development of the archipelago's wine sector and reinforce the role of sommeliers as prescribers of Canarian wines.
