The closing of a year of celebrations in El Grifo was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Fishing and Food of Spain, Luis Planas

It seems easy to condense into one event, that lasts just a few hours, 250 years of life and history, of advances that seemed crazy and that marked a before and after, of great wines and commitment to research, of sweet moments and others that were difficult, of people who preceded and were examples, definitely, condense the past from the current moment and do so with a firm gaze toward the future. All that has been celebrated today The tap, the oldest winery in the Canary Islands and one of the 10 oldest in Spain.

And he has done it by paying tribute to the people, your greatest asset. To those who work at the foot of the vineyard, in the field, but also in each one of them that makes possible each necessary step so that the client can enjoy their wines wherever they want.. Together with the field team, bodega, museum and wine tourism experiences, winegrowers and other collaborators, the owners Juan José y Fermín Otamendi, and family, personalities such as the Minister of Agriculture have also attended, Fishing and Food of Spain, Luis Planas Puchades, the Minister of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero Castañeda, the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Perez Martin, as well as representation of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and other authorities.

In the words of Juan José Otamendi, co-owner of the winery with his brother Fermín: “Lanzarote wine can be considered a geological wine, since only after the eruption of the volcano did vines begin to be cultivated as a way of survival, removing the sands from the volcano, which later gave rise to the production of wine. for us, make wine in La Geria and with the conditions that it implies – lack of rain, the continuous blow of the trade winds and the impossibility of mechanization, among other factors-, means acquiring the commitment, as did the generations that preceded us, for maintaining a form of viticulture that does not exist anywhere else. We talk about viticulture, but also of tradition and respect for the territory. For all this, Closing the 250th anniversary of El Grifo today means so much”.
