The contest brought together 46 wines of 18 bodegas, evaluated by blind tasting by a jury of 14 professionals authorized by the Department of Agriculture of the Government of the Canary Islands. The samples were divided into three large categories: young reds, young or barrel-fermented dry whites, and semi-dry wines, semidulces, sweet and liqueur.

The Cabildo highlighted that this contest, officially recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Food for a long time 14 years, It is part of a broader strategy to support the primary sector and valorize local products.. In that context, Gran Canaria viticulture appears as an activity with gastronomic impact, agricultural and territorial.
One of the most significant data is the growth of the vineyard on the island. According to the note released by the institution, Gran Canaria is the only island in the archipelago that annually increases the area dedicated to vines., with some 25 new hectares in the last five years. This advance not only strengthens the wineries, but helps recover agricultural land, generate employment, establish population in the territory and act as a natural firebreak against forest fires.

For island gastronomy, These awards are more than just a list of honors.: They are an invitation to take a closer look at the wines made on the island and to incorporate them with a greater presence in restaurants., cards, private bars and tables.
