During the awards ceremony of the XXII Regional Contest of Canary Islands Wine Lists for Hospitality, Restoration and specialized stores, held last Tuesday 15 July at the headquarters of the Canary Islands Regulatory Councils – Canary Wine and Ycoden Daute Isora, in the Tenerife municipality of La Guancha, Tim Atkin MW was distinguished as Canary Wine Ambassador, renowned journalist, photographer and one of the most influential wine critics in the world.

Tim Atkin, british by birth, but universal in its scope, He began his professional career in the field of economic sciences in London, although he soon found his true calling in the universe of wine, where he has developed one of the most inspiring careers in the sector. Obtaining the Master of Wine title is not just an academic accreditation, but the reflection of years of study, requirement, experience and passion. Throughout his career he has received numerous recognitions, such as the prizes awarded by the International Wine Challenge, and has signed reports and reference articles on various wine regions of the planet.

With more than three decades of experience, Atkin has established itself as an essential voice on the international wine scene. In its recent Canary Islands Report 2025, has tasted more than 500 archipelago wines, valuing quality, personality and diversity of our preparations. The president of the Management Body of the Canary Islands PDO – Canary Wine, John Jesus Mendez Siverio, presented Tim Atkin MW with the distinction that accredits him as the new Ambassador of Canary Wine, and stressed “Atkin's career as a passionate promoter of Canarian wine”, while highlighting “its ability to connect with global audiences and highlight the uniqueness of the archipelago's native varieties”. Méndez added that his appointment represents “a firm step towards the international consolidation of Canary Islands wine, from authenticity and respect for the origin”.
