Successful experience of the open day of the Canary Wine wineries “Descorcha Canarias”, celebrated the past 24 of August

The Management Body of the Canary Islands PDO – Canary Wine (AVIBO) carried out, last saturday 24 of August, an open day on the island of Tenerife, under the suggestive name of “Uncork the Canary Islands”, in which four wineries assigned to this wine designation of origin could be visited, allowing local wineries to be brought closer to the wine lovers discovering firsthand the rich history and qualities that make Canary Wine unique in the world.

The four participating wineries – Viñátigo Wineries, Fluid Stone Winery, El Lomo Wineries and El Sitio Wineries – They began the open day with a visit to the vineyards, where attendees were able to learn up close about the meticulous cultivation of the vine on our islands. Next, on an owner-guided tour, winery managers and winemakers, visitors entered the fermentation rooms, rooms that showed them the secrets of transforming grapes into wine, sharing with its producers not only the knowledge and passion for wine, but the entire winemaking process, from the vineyard to the bottle.

The high point of the day was, as expected, the wine tasting in which each of the participating wineries presented their creations accompanied by a pairing that enhanced and highlighted unique wines such as the Canary Wine.

Participation success

With practically all the tickets sold and more than 200 event attendees, This second edition of “Descorcha Canarias” has been, in the words of Juan Jesús Méndez Siverio, president of the DOP Canary Islands- Canary Wine and owner of Bodegas Viñátigo, “a resounding success”.

Juan Jesus Mendez, indicated that, “Descorcha Canarias is an open day in which the public can see inside the wineries and get closer to both the vineyards and the people behind them.”, giving a face to those of us who make and work in the wine sector of the archipelago”. For Mendez, “This is a proposal that links gastronomy and culture with art that, after all, It's the same as wine.".

All the participating wineries agreed to rate the day as very positive., since these types of initiatives are extremely interesting by turning the visitor into a friend and, at the time, a prescriber of the benefits of Canarian wine.

Pairings and music

Those attending Bodegas El Sitio, in Tacoronte, They were able to enjoy some tapas and delight in the master roast pata cutter. To accompany them, the wines were tasted: Orchilla (Vijariego white), Stranger (Stranger Gomera), Red Wine La Finca and El Sitio Vijariego Negro. All this enlivened with the sounds of the Grupo Parranda Canaria.

The team of El Lomo Winery, not Tegueste, offered a tour in several stages, combining the pairing at each stop, music and, even, humor with Juan A. Cabrera. Attendees enjoyed a selection of tapas prepared by Jorge Bosch's La Bola Restaurant accompanied by a glass of the wines: Rosame (rosé wine), 4 Lias, Disparate (carbonic maceration red wine) and El Lomo Vendimia Selectada, enlivened everything with live music from Grupo Son de Ley.

In Viñátigo Wineries, located in La Guancha, Catering Al Lío offered a selection of tapas to visitors. Viñátigo, for his part, Tasted four wines: White Assembly, Red Assembly, Viñátigo Listán Negro and the Plot Wine Camino de La Peña. All accompanied by live music from Standard Jazz Quartet.

In the case of the Fluid Stone Winery, located in La Orotava, Attendees enjoyed a selection of tapas created by La Concepción Restaurant and four different wines: Pediments, Magec, Black Listán Fluid Stone and White Fluid Stone. Creativity flowed in the form of the painting workshop organized by Art Muse, where participants immersed themselves in the world of colors and textures.
