Gastrocanarias is, plus everything else, a non-stop of championships of the most varied nature

The cover once again claimed its place as one of the great protagonists of Gastrocanarias 2026. Rossiberth Baute was proclaimed champion of 4º Makro Grand Prix Canary Islands Tapas Championship, a competition that closed the day's activity in the Cabildo de Tenerife Scenario of the XI Gastronomic Hall of the Canary Islands.

The contest brought together finalists who had to prepare and present six units of the selected cover in a maximum time of 45 minutes. For this, had a Makro purchase card for a maximum amount of 50 euros, intended for the acquisition of the necessary ingredients for the proposal.

The jury recognized the work of Rossiberth Baute in a competition that seeks to highlight the tapa as a versatile gastronomic format, creative and fully linked to the hospitality offer of the Islands. They completed the podium Cristian Jesus Dominguez, second place, y Arturo Norberto Matheu, third.

The day also left another of the outstanding premieres of this edition: he I Canary Islands Salad Championship Grand Prix Hellmann's. The winner was Ana Lamela Villarejo, from the restaurant The Camel Hole, which was unanimously won in the contest also held at the Cabildo de Tenerife Stage.

In this first edition, The participants had to present a salad that was part of the usual tapas of their establishment. During the test, they had 15 minutes to completion, adjustment and final plating, with the obligatory use of Hellmann's mayonnaise as the base of the recipe. Second place went to Jonay Macías García and the third for David Hernandez Perez.

As a final note of the day, coffee and drinks also had prominence with the I Canary Islands Barista Championship Grand Prix La Marzocco, organized by Don Manuel's Cafe. Santiago Del Castillo y Antonio Castillo were proclaimed winners in the vegetable drink and barraquito modalities, respectively.

In vegetable drink, they completed the podium Valentina Gonzalez, second just one point behind the winner, y Daniel Bencomo, third. In the hut mode, Luis Martinez was second and Daniel Bencomo repeated third place. The championship recognized professional excellence in the preparation and serving of coffee drinks, evaluating technique, consistency, sensory balance and execution.

With these contests, GastroCanarias reinforces its role as a small-format kitchen showcase, bar hospitality and new trends in professional service, from the tapa and the salad to the specialty coffee and the Canarian barraquito.
